Portraits are a way to say to the world - ‘I was here’ — I matter. Recording the image of an individual has not always been just for CEOs and heads of state. A portrait, captures a moment in time and tells a story - about an individual or a family to be on record and to be celebrated.
The Etruscans (pre-roman) had a deep and abiding love for portrait sculpture. Etruscan funeral urns were created to hold the remains of the deceased, and were life-like depictions of everyday people. Today, these artworks helps our modern society understand who these people were, and really, how much alike we still are.
